Networking in Halifax Dartmouth
Networking has been a hot topic with me lately, mostly because I have been seeing results from it. I belong to one “formal” networking club, but attend many others in the local area and I also network online. My efforts so far have allowed me to connect with 3 clients, one of whom has referred another. Networking does payoff!
Lately, I find myself telling others about several of these venues and have decided I would post a few of the “places” where I network, should others be looking for such information. Some are a drop in and have a nominal fee to cover coffee, snacks and some are a membership commitment with fees involved. Either way, I highly recommend all business owners and professionals getting out on a regular basis and making contact with others.
Local to the Halifax-Dartmouth Area in Nova Scotia:
- Business Breakfast Club, several clubs/locations and limited to one member per industry.
- DartNet at Rocco’s Restaurant at the Braemar Drive Quality Inn location in Dartmouth. Monthly drop-in, cost $5 includes coffee, tea, muffins, tax receipt. 1st Tuesday of each month 10am – 11:30am.
- DDBC, the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission has a once a month networking session, hosted by a business in the area. Contact the DDBC to get on their mailing list and receive the invites.
- BConnected Progressive membership networking, several times/locations.
- Centre for Women in Business offers a monthly networking for members and non-members, must register first.
- Halifax Chamber of Commerce offers many different programs and networking opportunities. Contact the Chamber for more info.
Online networking, is mostly virtual assistant – but does offer benefits to other business owners as well.
- VAnetworking – weekly networking with other virtual assistants but also offers free weekly seminars with topics that pertain to many types of business, and a fantastic support forum.
- Canadian Virtual Assistant Connection – this group also offers a support forum and seminars for business.
- Twitter – Believe it or not, I network all week long with the contacts I have on Twitter.
- Facebook – I also have many contacts here that by sharing info I can connect and make contact with them as well.
- Linked In is another online networking group – it’s on a more professional level as opposed to a mix of personal/professional as some are.
These are the ones I know about directly, I am certain there are others and please don’t be offended if your group was missed. If you know of some more networking opportunities, leave a note here and I will add it to the list. I’d also love to hear your success stories from networking!

Thank-you Kathy. I know that with your suggestions that I feel as though I’m going to move forward faster thanks to your willingness to share information which you see as valuable to you. Many people aren’t where you are, from the stand point of sharing information.
You are great!
Thanks again,
Amy
