Networking is something I truly enjoy, whether in person or online. I have been doing a lot of online networking, through Twitter, Facebook, Linked In and a few of the online communities I belong to as well: VAclassroom, VAnetworking and CVAC.
I have been learning how valuable these online connections can be by some of my recent in-person experiences. The latest was today at a local networking event I attend, DartNet.
There was a fellow at the other end of the table and I couldn’t place a name to his face, but I recognized him from somewhere. Finally, I saw his name on the sign in sheet and looked over at him and said “That’s where I know you from, the PodCamp.”
He nodded and said, ” Yes, I know your face too, from Twitter.”
It was funny, several of the PodCamp Halifax attendees had connected through Twitter after the event in January, though not everyone had met in person. Craig and I had not met, I had seen his face when he presented a topic for one of the sessions at PodCamp and my face was familiar to him from all my tweeting in the land of Twitter.
It was a great way to break into conversation and it’s always fun to match a face in person to one you have seen or heard online. Unlike some people, I have no problem playing the “matchgame”. I love it and try very hard to make connections (you know the six degrees of separation type). Combine the online connections with our new in-person one, and I will probably not forget Craig again.
Another simple reminder that online networking does work and does have value to your business, you just have to work at it, to be a success. What other networking success stories are out there?
PS – To introduce you all to Craig, meet Craig Moore of Spider Video in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Spider Video is a full service video production company with a speciality in web based video content.
