Okay.  I just don’t understand, was I always the only one who liked the Office Christmas Party?

I attended many big ones and small ones when I worked at Royal Bank, and also have gone to several with my husband’s work (call centres).  I liked these parties.  I had fun, I enjoyed meeting everyone’s spouses and dancing and eating and drinking. One of my favourites was at the Kings Palace on Quinpool Road in Halifax – we danced and danced to the DJ music we worked hard to create – it was a blast, even had my husband dancing – which is rare. I loved these parties, even miss them now that I don’t work at a big “office” any longer.

Is it really true that most people do not enjoy them?  I only ask because it seems that a lot of the radios ads I have been listening to lately are aimed at how unpleasant office parties are, and the “bad things” that happened. I can’t even tell you what the ad was for, I was so focused on telling the radio that “I liked my parties!” (Yeah, I talk back to the radio all the time!)  There are even some ads that make light of how people hate getting gifts from people (that annual sweater vest from Aunt Martha type of thing).

Maybe I need to take more marketing courses, I suppose there could be some benefit to these ads that pick on negative memories to sell a product.  I don’t know, I guess I’d rather focus on good things, the nice parts of Christmas and parties, the warm and fuzzies. Maybe it’s just that these types of ads annoy me in general… Have you heard the ones that Property Guys have – always calling real estate agents “Joe Schmoes”, that one really annoys me – and I told them so!  It bugged me so much I emailed the head office, not that I heard back…

My message here (or opinion) I guess, is that I don’t like those kinds of ads, and I always change the radio station when they come one…hmmmm, there must have been one too many on the radio today… sorry to be ranting here…I think this is one of my few posts that have not had a whole lot of purpose, sorry about that!

Hopefully soon there will be some good cheery ads on the radio about Christmas, I think I need a few.
