Michael Stelzner recently published a report on the Social Media Marketing Industry. The report is based upon a survey of more than 850 social media users. It has some great information, especially for those new to Twitter, Linked In and Facebook – it will answer some questions you have about how and why people are using these sites.
One surprise for many people will be the age of people using Social Media. When I talk to many people they are under the assumption that social media is dominated by young people. That’s not exactly the case anymore. While it may have started out that way, especially for sites like MySpace and Facebook – the times they are a-changing.
Stelzner’s report shows that more than 78% of those who responded were between the ages of 30 and 59, with the average age group being 40-49! BiZReport recently reported on the fact that Facebook is getting Gray – users are getting older as more join in this social site. On average, Twitter users are older than those using Facebook and MySpace, and as more businesses and people begin using these sites, that upward age trend likely continue.
Something to keep in mind when chatting with others about social media and social networking sites.
