Virtual Assistants work in this economic situation

The message about the effectiveness of hiring a Virtual Assistant (VA) to help with business is getting out in the world. I know this because my mother, of all people, mentioned tonight how businesses must be seeing the value of VAs in this economy.

We were talking today -she is still a great sounding board for my business- and she started on this topic.  It was great! Her comments made me realize that all my chatter, networking and explaining to people about Virtual Assistants is working. Professionals and business owners are seeing that VAs can be the lifesaver many of them need. Read the rest of this entry »

Party on… virtually!

Well, the holidays are a week away and I am off tomorrow night to enjoy my Virtual Assistant Christmas Party.  You’ll note from my post on December 5th that I do enjoy my Christmas Parties!

And why not, food, friends, meeting new people, prizes, music, sometimes dancing (I remember one great Royal Bank party – we were dancing in the branch, on top of the wickets, to Bananarama’s Venus!) … and of course a few drinks or two… icon smile Party on... virtually!

My  family as well as some friends and business connections are chuckling already about my party tomorrow – because it is a virtual party.  I will be here in my office, with my snacks, headset and microphone, a couple drinks and plan to have a great time with all my VAnetworking friends from all over the world!  There will be people from British Columbia, me from Nova Scotia, Ontario, Texas, Michigan, New Jersey, Australia and more.  I am hoping to win some of the prizes – there’s apparently thousands of dollars in prizes up for grabs.

So laugh all you want, but no matter what I plan to have a fantastic work party tomorrow!  Working virtually means doing many things differently – even parties!

Volunteering does more than you think!

I never really started any serious volunteering until my first child started school. And when I started, boy did I go at it! Why not, I wasn’t working and it kept me busy, not that my three kids plus the other three I was babysitting didn’t… but it was different. It involved connecting with other adults and meetings at night where I could say “See you” to my husband and kids and get away for a while.

It wasn’t until about 5 years later when I went to re-enter the workforce, that I realized I was not worried about having a gap in the employment section of my résumé – I didn’t consider there to be a gap. Why? Well… let’s see what did my years of volunteering get me…? Read the rest of this entry »

Prizes, Prizes, Prizes

My favourite networking forum, VAnetworking, is planning some great things for this December.  They have a December Advent Calendar event arranged as part of their 5th Anniversary/Birthday celebrations.

At last count they have over $5,000 in prizes that will be given away during the month of December. $5,000! That’s a lot of stuff!  I am not certain of the prizes, but one thing I am certain of is that many types of businesses will be able to put some of these prizes to use.  Not just Virtual Assistants! Many of the members of VAnetworking are not VAs but other business owners as well – this site has info and resources relevant to many types of businesses.

Anyone can sign up for this Birthday Bash event and I really recommend it if you are looking at a type of work from home business, or becoming, or working with, a Virtual Assistant.

Sign up today, the December Advent Calandar event starts tomorrow!

My First Ad… it's so exciting

Well, I finally have my first online ad!  It’s an exciting time for my Virtual Assistant business.  I am finally starting to feel like things are moving and confident that this venture will be a success. Plan, prepare and organize and it can happen!

I invite you all to check out the ad… it is on the VAnetworking site – my favourite place for VA support.  Go to the site and look on the left as you scroll down and there you will find Time on Task VA!  Please let me know what you think after seeing it too, I really appreciate feedback.

VAnetworking has millions of hits each months and close to 200,000 unique visits! It’s great exposure!  And, this site is not just for VAs, they have tons of info here that can benefit business owners of any type, and many of these resources are very valueable, and free – the best kind!
